Ashburn, VA (My Sportsbook) - The Washington Redskins signed running back Ladell Betts to a contract extension on Friday. Terms of the deal were not released. Betts, who was drafted by the Redskins in the second round of the 2002 NFL Draft, has filled in for the injured Clinton Portis, who is out for the rest of the year with a broken hand and shoulder surgery. He has run the ball 141 times for a career-best 643 yards with two touchdowns this season. Betts also has 40 catches for 301 yards. Since taking over for Portis for the November 26 games against Carolina, Betts has gained 259 yards on 52 carries. Betts, who would've been a free agent after the season, has compiled 1,914 yards on 462 carries with seven touchdowns, while hauling in 92 passes for 808 yards in five campaigns with the Redskins.
