New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Bartolo Colon was suspended for five games, while manager Jerry Manuel drew a one-game suspension for their actions during a contest against the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday, May 15 at U.S. Cellular Field. Colon was penalized for intentionally throwing at and hitting Baltimore's Jerry Hairston Jr. in the top of the ninth inning, after a warning had been issued. Manuel was suspended for the intentional actions of Colon after a warning had been issued. Bob Watson, Vice President of On-Field Operations for Major League Baseball, also fined Baltimore pitcher Jorge Julio for throwing at and hitting Chicago's Magglio Ordonez, which caused the initial warning to be issued in the bottom of the eighth. Home plate umpire Terry Craft warned both dugouts in the eighth inning after Ordonez, who drilled a three-run triple during a six-run seventh inning for the White Sox, was hit in the back with a pitch. Colon and Manuel also received undisclosed fines. Unless appealed, Colon's suspension is scheduled to begin Wednesday night. Manuel will serve his suspension on Friday when the White Sox host the Detroit Tigers. Colon threw 86 pitches and was just three outs away from a complete game when he was ejected. The White Sox won that game 8-2.
