San Jose, CA (My Sportsbook) - The San Jose Sharks have decided to activate the club option for center Mike Ricci. The 31-year-old Ricci played in 75 games for San Jose last season, scoring 11 goals and assisting on 23 others. He was originally selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the first round (fourth overall) of the 1990 Entry Draft. Ricci was traded by the Flyers to the then Quebec Nordiques as part of the blockbuster trade in 1992 that landed Eric Lindros in Philadelphia. A member of the 1996 Stanley Cup-winning Colorado Avalanche, Ricci was dealt in November 1997 by Colorado along with a second round selection in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft to San Jose for Shean Donovan and the Sharks' first round selection in 1998. A 13-year veteran, Ricci has collected 226 goals and 336 assists in 943 career games. In another roster move, San Jose signed defenseman Doug Murray. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. In 2001-02, the Cornell product Murray was named the Ivy League's Player of the Year and a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award. Last season, he scored five goals and assisted on 20 others in 35 games.
