=== Seattle Mariners Team Report - May 22 === (My Sportsbook) - The Seattle Mariners are set for this afternoon's rubber match of a three-game series against the Kansas City Royals at Safeco Field. Last night, Seattle allowed 14 runs on 12 hits in a nine-runs loss to the Royals. Bret Boone ended 2-for-5 with four RBI for the Mariners, who had their winning streak halted at five games. Carlos Guillen stroked three hits and scored three runs in the loss. Seattle enters the day two games ahead of Oakland for first place in the AL West. Pitching for the Mariners today will be Gil Meche, who is 4-1 over his last five starts. The 24-year-old righty is coming off a victory last Friday at Detroit, when he allowed six hits and three runs over six frames. Meche is 1-1 in two career starts against the Royals. Seattle, which is 15-9 at home this season, has won eight of the last 12 meetings with Kansas City. Despite the loss yesterday, Seattle still owns a two game lead over Oakland in the AL West. The Mariners are batting .278 this season and are holding opponents to a .249 average. After a shaky start to the season, Ichiro Suzuki has lifted his average to .315. Edgar Martinez continues to lead the squad at .333.
