(My Sportsbook) - The Chicago White Sox, who are 4 1/2 games back of front- running Minnesota in the Central, are one of two American League teams with an open date on Thursday.

Chicago, which opens a three-game set with Detroit on Friday, won two of three from Toronto earlier this week. The rubber match came on Wednesday, a 6-5 victory by the White Sox.

In that tilt, Carlos Lee's two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning proved to be the difference.

Paul Konerko had two hits, including a homer, and drove in two for the White Sox, who have won two straight after four consecutive losses. Lee and Armando Rios added two hits, and Tony Graffanino homered.

Damaso Marte (2-0) earned the win despite walking two in one-plus inning of work for Chicago. Tom Gordon struck out four in 1 2/3 innings of relief and Billy Koch posted his fifth save.

With the win, the White Sox improved to 2-19 when trailing after six innings.

As a team, Chicago is batting only .248 this season and none of its every-day players is hitting .300 or better.
