=== Detroit Tigers Team Report - May 22 === (My Sportsbook) - The Detroit Tigers try and put the brakes on their seven- game skid tonight and avoid being swept by the Cleveland Indians as the two teams close their four-game set at Jacobs Field. Detroit, which has been swept eight times this season, last dropped a four- game series in Cleveland from May 31-June 3 during the 1991 season. On Wednesday, the Tigers could not generate a single run in a 4-0 loss to the Indians. Andres Torres had two hits, including a double, for Detroit, who were shut out for the ninth time this season and dropped to 9-35 with the loss. Jeremy Bonderman (2-7) absorbed his third straight loss. He yielded six hits and four runs -- three earned -- in five innings while walking five. Taking the mound for the Tigers today will be Nate Cornejo, who is 3-3 on the season with a 3.35 ERA. The 23-year-old righthander is coming off a loss in his last start, as he allowed five runs on eight hits over five innings to the Seattle Mariners. The Wellington, KS native had won his previous two outings. He is 0-1 lifetime against Cleveland with a 4.76 ERA in two starts. Detroit first baseman Carlos Pena extended his hitting streak to eight games with a 1-for-3 effort in Wednesday's loss. He is 11-for-30 with three homers, two doubles and seven RBIs during his run.
