Bronx, NY (My Sportsbook) - The New York Yankees have placed outfielder Bernie Williams on the 15-day disabled list because of a left knee injury. Williams has a sprained left knee and a torn medial meniscus. Surgery has been recommended, but the centerfielder has not decided what course of action he will take. "Obviously, I'm very disappointed," said Williams before Thursday's game against Toronto. "I'll probably come to a decision in the next day or two." Surgery would likely keep Williams sidelined until about the All-Star break. Williams has been bothered by the knee for about a week and is in the midst of an 0-for-21 slump. He is hitting .286 with seven homers and 31 runs batted in over 46 games this season. The 34-year-old Williams has hit .300 or better in eight straight seasons, the longest active run in the majors and second in Yankee history behind the 12 straight seasons by Lou Gehrig. The Yankees have not yet made a move to fill the roster spot, but will likely recall Juan Rivera from Triple-A Columbus.
