New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - The best team in NFC dominated the Pro Bowl roster, as the
Chicago Bears placed seven players on the team that will take on the AFC's best in Honolulu, Hawaii on February 10.
In addition to the Chicago heavy roster, 13 total players are first-timers to the Pro Bowl team, which was announced on Tuesday.
Three of the Bears on the squad are specialists, three are from the defensive side of the ball and only one comes from the offense. Kicker Robbie Gould, return specialist Devin Hester and special teamer Brendon Ayanbadejo make up the specialists, while linebackers Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs and interior lineman Tommie Harris come from the defense and center Olin Kruetz comes from the offense. All seven players will be starters.
The first timers on the team include offensive tackle Jamall Brown (New Orleans), guard Shawn Andrews (Philadelphia), running backs Frank Gore (San Francisco) and Steven Jackson (St. Louis), quarterback Tony Romo (Dallas), defensive ends Aaron Kampman (Green Bay) and Will Smith (New Orleans), linebacker DeMarcus Ware (Dallas), strong safety Adrian Wilson (Arizona), punter Mat McBriar (Dallas), as well as Gould, Hester and Ayanbadejo.
The most surprising name on the Pro Bowl list has to be Romo, who didn't even start the season under center for the Cowboys. He will backup starter Drew Brees (New Orleans). Marc Bulger (St. Louis) was also selected as a backup. Bulger and Brees will be making their second trips to Hawaii.
Gore will start in the NFC's backfield. Three-time selection Tiki Barber (New York) will join Jackson as reserves.
Torry Holt (St. Louis) will start at wide receiver along with Steve Smith (Carolina). Holt will be making his sixth appearance on the Pro Bowl roster, while this will be Smith's third selection. Serving as reserves will be Anquan Boldin (Arizona) and Donald Driver (Green Bay), both of whom will be making their second trips to the Pro Bowl.
The tight ends are Alge Crumpler (Atlanta) and Jeremy Shockey (New York). Crumpler, the starter, and Shockey are both four-time All-Stars.
The starting linemen are Kruetz, Andrews, Brown, Walter Jones (Seattle) and Steve Hutchinson (Minnesota). Kreutz is making his sixth trip to the Aloha State, Hutchinson his fourth and Jones his seventh. The reserve linemen are Chris Samuels (Washington), Larry Allen (San Francisco) and Matt Birk (Minnesota).
On the defensive side, starting with Smith and Harris on the defensive line is three-time Pro Bowl selection Julius Peppers (Carolina) and Kevin Williams (Minnesota). This is Williams' second trip to the Pro Bowl.
Briggs, Ware and Urlacher are the starting linebackers. Julian Peterson (Seattle) and Lofa Tatupu (Seattle) are the reserve linebackers. This is the second Pro Bowl for Tatupu and third for Peterson.
The starting cornerbacks are Ronde Barber (Tampa Bay) and DeAngelo Hall (Atlanta). Lito Sheppard (Philadelphia) is the reserve. Barber's trip is his fourth, Hall is making his second straight trip, while this is the second appearance for Sheppard.
Starting at safety along with Wilson is Brian Dawkins (Philadelphia). Roy Williams (Dallas) is the reserve. Dawkins is now a six-time selection, while Williams is a four-time honoree.
The National Conference defeated the American Conference 23-17 last season in the Pro Bowl. The all-time series is tied 18-18. The 2007 NFC coaching staff will be from the NFC Championship Game runner-up team.
Under terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, each player on the winning Pro Bowl team receives $40,000, while each player on the losing squad earns $20,000.
