Curt Schilling (3-3) was handed the loss after allowing three runs on nine hits in seven innings of work. The righthander, who had won his previous three decisions, struck out 11 and walked two. Tony Womack and Steve Finley had the lone hits for Arizona, which has dropped three of its last four contests. Taking the hill for Arizona on Sunday is Elmer Dessens, who is winless in his last four starts (0-2). The righthander's last victory came on April 28 against Florida. In his last outing, Dessens was handed the loss against San Francisco on Tuesday, permitting five runs -- four earned -- on eight hits over 4 1/3 innings. He walked two and fanned one. The Mexico native is winless (0-1) in seven career appearances -- one start -- against the Padres with a 5.29 ERA. |
