=== Jays pull off four-game sweep of reeling Yankees ===
Bronx, NY (My Sportsbook) - Greg Myers doubled in two runs to key a four-run fourth inning, as the Toronto Blue Jays completed a four-game sweep of the New York Yankees with a 5-3 victory at Yankee Stadium.
Myers finished with two hits and Josh Phelps drove in two runs for the Blue Jays, who swept a four-game series from New York for the first time. Toronto also wrapped up a 10-game road trip at 8-2.
Jorge Posada, Derek Jeter and Alfonso Soriano hit solo homers for the Yankees, who have lost a season-high four straight games and seven in a row at home. The seven-game home skid is the longest for the Yankees since they dropped 10 in a row at Yankee Stadium from May 26 through June 29, 1986.
New York, which was 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position and 0-for-18 with runners on base, has lost 11 of its last 12 at home. The Yankees left 12 on base, including at least one in every inning.
Soriano's 15th homer of the season with one out in the ninth off Cliff Politte pulled the Yankees within 5-3. Jason Giambi followed with a single to bring the tying run to the plate, but Politte got Posada to pop out and struck out Raul Mondesi for his eighth save.
Doug Davis (2-3) went the first five innings to earn the win for Toronto. He allowed one run and six hits, walked two and struck out three to snap a personal three-game slide.
New York starter Jeff Weaver (3-3) fell to 1-3 in his last six outings. He was charged with five runs -- four earned -- on six hits in five-plus innings.
Posada's 12th homer of the season put the Yankees ahead 1-0 in the second, but the Blue Jays took advantage of an error to score four times in the fourth.
Frank Catalanotto reached on an error by Soriano and Weaver then walked Vernon Wells and hit Carlos Delgado with a pitch to load the bases. Myers grounded a double inside first and down the right field line to score two. Phelps then hit a sacrifice fly and Orlando Hudson singled in a run for a 4-1 lead.
A double by Delgado and a single by Myers starting the sixth put runners on the corners. Phelps followed with an RBI single to make it 5-1 and chase Weaver.
Jeter, who batted leadoff, hit his first homer of the season to pull New York within 5-2 in the seventh. The Yankees then put runners on first and second with one out against Pete Walker, but Aquilino Lopez struck out two to end the rally.
The Yankees were last swept in a four-game series by the Chicago White Sox on June 15-18, 2000. Weaver fell to 4-7 in 12 career starts against the Blue Jays. Jeter's last homer came on September 27, 2002. He led off for the first time since August 4, 2002. Soriano, who had led off each of the first 49 games, batted third.
Toronto improved to 18-12 on the road this season. Toronto outfielder Shannon Stewart missed the game with tightness in both hamstrings. Wells went 0-for-3 and had a 12-game hitting streak stopped.
