Arizona Diamondbacks Team Report - May 27 ===
(My Sportsbook) - After starting the 2003 campaign with just three wins in the first 14 games, the Arizona Diamondbacks have slowly regained some respectability and are now just three games below .500 in the National League West.
On Monday Luis Gonzalez homered and drove in three runs, leading Arizona to an 8-4 victory over the San Diego Padres at Bank One Ballpark. David Dellucci also had a homer and was hit by a pitch to force in the go-ahead run for the Diamondbacks, who won three of the four games in the series.
Dellucci finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Tony Womack added two hits with a pair of runs in the victory. Andrew Good threw seven solid innings for his first major league win.
Good (1-1), in his fifth career start, was charged with three runs on six hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out seven. Good also recorded his first major league hit with a single in the fourth.
Although the Diamondbacks have had one of the most devastating starting rotations in the NL in the last couple of years, this season has been a much different story.
With changes seemingly coming every day for Arizona hurlers, the Diamondbacks will activate pitcher Byung-Hyun Kim off the 15-day disabled list to start Tuesday's game against San Francisco. Kim has been sidelined since April 30 with a bruised right ankle.
In addition to Kim making a return, rookie Brandon Webb will miss his start Wednesday because of mild tendinitis in his right elbow. John Patterson will be recalled from Tucson to make the start instead.
Kim's last outing came on April 29 when he lasted five innings, giving up five runs on six hits, two of them home runs, as he recorded his fifth loss in six decisions. For his career Kim as a record of 1-2 and a 3.00 ERA versus the Giants.
Arizona's pitching staff has the sixth-best ERA in the NL at 4.01, but the bullpen has been credited with a mere eight saves, second-fewest in the league entering Tuesday's action. D'Back hurlers have fared much better away from home this year, sporting a 3.01 ERA, and having recorded five of their eight saves away from Bank One.
