Arlington, TX (My Sportsbook) - Pitcher Esteban Yan was traded from the Texas Rangers to the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday. Texas exchanged Yan, a righthander, and an undisclosed amount of cash for minor-league outfielder Rick Asadoorian. In 15 games out of the Rangers' bullpen this season, Yan went 0-1 with a 6.94 earned run average. In 23 innings he struck out 25 and walked seven. Yan, who spent the previous five seasons with Tampa Bay, agreed to a one-year contract with Texas. The eight-year veteran owns a 26-32 record with a 5.35 ERA. The Rangers also designated pitcher Todd Van Poppel for assignment Tuesday and replaced him on the roster with pitcher Rosman Garcia. Van Poppel was 1-0 with an 8.53 ERA in seven games, including one start. The Rangers have 10 days to trade, release or send him to the minors. Garcia had 10 saves and a 0.55 ERA in 14 appearances with Triple-A Oklahoma, but allowed nine earned runs in nine innings in a stint with Texas earlier this season. The Rangers also transferred pitcher Chan Ho Park and outfielder Doug Glanville's rehab assignments from Oklahoma to Double-A Frisco, which is closer in proximity to the big league club.
