Bronx, NY (My Sportsbook) - New York Yankees outfielder Bernie Williams underwent surgery Tuesday to repair torn cartilage in his left knee and is expected to be sidelined for four-to-six weeks. Williams was placed on the 15-day disabled list last week after he was bothered by the sore knee for nearly a month. He had a sprain and a tear of the medial meniscus and decided to have the surgery after getting a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews. Williams is in the midst of an 0-for-21 slump and is batting .286 this season with seven homers and 31 RBI in 46 games. The 34-year-old Williams has hit .300 or better in eight straight seasons, the longest active run in the majors and the second-most in Yankee history behind the 12 consecutive campaigns by Lou Gehrig.
