Florida Marlins Team Report - May 29 ===
(My Sportsbook) - The Florida Marlins are winners of six straight and will look to complete their second straight sweep tonight when they close out a four-game set at Pro Player Stadium against the Montreal Expos.
The six-game winning streak is the longest of the season for the Marlins.
In the first contest of a doubleheader yesterday, Juan Pierre went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a run scored and his league-leading 20th stolen base of the season as the Marlins were victorious against the Expos, 4-3.
Derrek Lee had two hits with a run scored and an RBI and Juan Encarnacion went 2-for-4 and drove in a run.
Tommy Phelps (2-0) started his third game of the season and won his second in a row, giving up three runs on four hits and a walk, striking out four over 5 1/3 innings. Tim Spooneybarger struck out five in 2 2/3 innings of hitless relief and Braden Looper worked a perfect ninth to earn his eighth save.
Michael Tejera and two relievers combined to post the Florida Marlins' first shutout of the season, as they drubbed the Expos 6-0 in the nightcap.
Mike Lowell went 3-for-3 with a walk and an RBI and Todd Hollandsworth and Luis Castillo each posted two hits and two runs scored.
The Marlins will send Brad Penny to the mound this evening. Penny was victorious in his last outing, defeating the Cincinnati Reds at the Great American Ball Park. In that contest, Penny allowed only two runs on six hits in six innings, while compiling 10 strikeouts.
The victory was the first for the 25-year-old righthander since defeating the Philadelphia Phillies at Veterans Stadium on April 16. In that contest, Penny was phenomenal, allowing no runs and just two hits in seven innings and recorded eight strikeouts.
Penny has been spectacular against the Expos, posting a 7-2 record with an ERA of 2.09 in 10 career starts.
Pierre is 9-for-23 in his last five games. Luis Castillo has a six game hitting streak. In those games, Castillo is 11-for-26 with five runs and two RBI. Castillo has struck out only nine times in 93 plate appearances in May.
