Pittsburgh, PA (My Sportsbook) - Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher will reportedly announce his retirement on Friday. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Cowher, the longest-tenured head coach in the league, will return to Pittsburgh and announce his decision during a news conference, which the team has scheduled for 1 p.m. (et). In 2005, Cowher led the Steelers to an 11-5 record and the franchise's fifth Super Bowl championship. The Steelers bested the Seattle Seahawks, 21-10, in Super Bowl XL to capture the Lombardi Trophy. However, speculation began to rise after the Super Bowl that Cowher's time was coming to an end when the head coach put off contract extension talks until after the 2006 season. Pittsburgh failed to make the playoffs this past year, starting off 2-6 before finishing with a mediocre 8-8 record. In 15 seasons as the head coach of the Steelers, Cowher has posted a 149-90-1 regular-season mark with the club with a 12-9 record in the post-season, which includes two appearances in the Super Bowl.
