Florida Panthers try for their third consecutive victory tonight when they visit the
New York Islanders at Nassau Coliseum.
After dropping successive games to Minnesota, Chicago and Columbus by a combined 12-3 margin, the Panthers have disposed of Atlanta and Toronto, including Wednesday's 4-1 triumph in Toronto. Olli Jokinen scored twice and had an assist, and Roberto Luongo made 30 saves to give Florida its first win over a team other than the lowly Thrashers.
Valeri Bure and Marcus Nilson also scored for the Panthers, who held their opponent under four goals for just the second time this season. Bure, who was benched and criticized by coach Mike Keenan earlier this month, bagged his first of the season 4:09 into the opening period.
Florida caps off a brief road trip tonight, and will return home to face Washington on Saturday.
The Islanders, meanwhile, had a three-game unbeaten streak (2-0-1) snapped with a 4-1 loss to Carolina on Tuesday night. Claude Lapointe was the lone Islander to solve goaltender Kevin Weekes, who stymied his former club with 36 saves. New York outshot Carolina by a 37-18 margin.

Goaltender Garth Snow allowed three goals, and did not make consecutive saves until midway through the second period.
There was some bad news in addition to the loss as well. Left wing Oleg Kvasha suffered a fractured left ankle in the second period and is expected to miss at least the next two weeks.
New York opened a four-game homestand Tuesday, and will host Philadelphia Saturday night. The set then concludes next Tuesday versus Phoenix.
The Isles went 2-1-1 against the Panthers last season, and are 6-2-1 in the last nine meetings overall. Florida, however, has won in two of its last three trips to the Nassau Coliseum.
