Edmonton, Alberta (My Sportsbook) - The
St. Louis Blues seek their fourth consecutive victory tonight when they visit the
Edmonton Oilers, winless in four straight, at Skyreach Centre.
Since a 2-2 tie with Minnesota on October 12, the Blues have disposed of Carolina, Columbus and Dallas, including Saturday's 5-3 decision over the Stars in the final installment of a season-opening five-game homestand.
Former Oiler Doug Weight scored a pair of third-period power-play goals to complete the Blues' comeback from a 3-1 deficit. Weight knotted the score 2:20 into the third period, and subsequently put them ahead at the 11:39 mark. Dallas Drake sealed things with an empty-netter in the final minute.
Al MacInnis and Cory Stillman also tallied for St. Louis, while goaltender Curtis Sanford made 23 saves in his first National Hockey League start. Sanford is the third goaltender to start this season for the Blues, as both Fred Brathwaite (groin) and Reinhard Divis (groin) have both joined regular backstop Brent Johnson (ankle sprain) are on the shelf. Brathwaite is doubtful for this evening's match, and Sanford will likely make his second straight start.
The Blues begin a brief road trip tonight, and will head to Calgary on Saturday. In all they play five of their next six games away from the Gateway City.
Edmonton, meanwhile, is 0-3-1 in its last four games, including Tuesday's 3-3 tie in Denver against the Avalanche. The Oilers led 2-1 after two periods, but the Avs scored twice in the first 3:41 of the frame to take a 3-2 advantage. Edmonton's Ryan Smyth then forced overtime at 9:06 of the third, converting a cross-ice pass from Janne Niinimaa for his 150th career goal.
Tommy Salo made 36 saves in his duel with Colorado's Patrick Roy.
The Oilers open a four-game homestand tonight, and will resume the set on Saturday against Anaheim. Dallas and Buffalo pay visits as well.
St. Louis went 2-1-1 against Edmonton last season and is 4-2-1 in the last seven meetings overall. The Blues are, however, winless in their last four trips to Skyreach Centre (0-3-1).
