ST. LOUIS (AP) -St. Louis Cardinals center fielder Jim Edmonds had surgery Tuesday to correct a foot ailment that led him to have a daily numbing injection during the postseason. The procedure in Charlotte, N.C., corrected a ``hammer toe'' condition of the second toe on his left foot. The Cardinals expect the 36-year-old to be ready for opening day. Edmonds has shoulder surgery in November, five days after agreeing to a $19 million, two-year contract. He was limited to 110 games last year, making only four starts in the final six weeks of the regular season due to post-concussion syndrome, but led the team with 10 RBIs in the postseason. Edmonds batted .257 with 19 homers and 70 RBIs, his lowest totals since 1999. Copyright © 2005 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
