Houston, TX (My Sportsbook) - The Houston Texans named assistant head coach Mike Sherman offensive coordinator and Kyle Shanahan quarterbacks coach on Wednesday. Sherman is entering his 11th NFL season and second with the Texans. He is the only coach that has had the title of assistant head coach for Houston and he will retain that in addition to his new title. In six seasons as the head coach in Green Bay, Sherman compiled a 59-43 record, including four consecutive playoff appearances. Sherman replaces Troy Calhoun, who left to become the head coach at the Air Force Academy. Shanahan started the 2006 season as the youngest position coach in the NFL. Before joining the Texans, he coached two seasons as the offensive quality control coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, working closely with the quarterbacks and receivers.
