Charlotte, NC (My Sportsbook) - The Carolina Panthers named Tim Lewis secondary coach on Friday. Lewis spent last season as the New York Giants defensive coordinator but was fired last week. Before going to the Giants in 2004, Lewis spent the previous four campaigns as the defensive coordinator for Pittsburgh, leading the Steelers to the top- ranking in total defense, first against the run and fourth against the pass in 2001. "Tim's experience as both a player and a coach in the NFL provide him with sound knowledge of the defensive backfield," said Carolina head coach John Fox. "Our staff is familiar with him, and we think he will make a strong contribution to our defense." Lewis played four seasons with the Green Bay Packers and finished with 16 interceptions in 51 contests.
