New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - Albert Pujols of the St. Louis Cardinals and Kevin Brown of the Los Angeles Dodgers were named National League Player and Pitcher of the Month, respectively, for May. Additionally, San Diego Padres outfielder Xavier Nady was named NL Rookie of the Month. Pujols batted .345 with 10 homers, 26 RBI and 25 runs scored in 29 games. He also compiled a .707 slugging percentage and a .394 on-base percentage. The 23-year-old, who leads the Major Leagues with a .364 batting average, took home the award for the first time in his young career. Brown led the league in wins (five) and earned run average (1.02) while hurling 44 innings. He permitted just five earned runs and 28 hits with 36 strikeouts through six starts. Brown, who did not allow more than one earned run in any of his starts in May, earned the honor for the second time in his career. Nady hit four homers, batted .320 and drove home 15 runs in 27 games for the Padres during May. The 24-year-old stroked seven doubles and posted an on-base percentage of .358 and a .505 slugging percentage while leading all NL rookies in homers, RBI and hits during the month. Other players considered for the Player of the Week honor were the Pirates' Kenny Lofton, Atlanta's Gary Sheffield, and Benito Santiago of the Giants. NL hurler Billy finished behind Brown for the pitching award while other rookies on the ballot were Florida's Dontrelle Willis, Houston's Brad Lidge and Javier Lopez of the Rockies.
