Anaheim, CA (My Sportsbook) - Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals between the
New Jersey Devils and the Anaheim Mighty Ducks remains scoreless after two periods of play at the Pond.
Anaheim's Jean-Sebastien Giguere and the Devils' Martin Brodeur each made eight saves in the stanza. The Devils have outshot Anaheim, 18-15, through two periods.
The Ducks hit the post twice in the second period, but could not beat Brodeur.
Stanislav Chistov clanked one off the iron to Brodeur's glove side with a wrist shot from the point with under 13 minutes left in the period. The Devils went on the power play seconds later and almost scored.
New Jersey had just one shot with the man advantage, but Giguere smothered a redirection by Brian Gionta from the top of the crease. Sergei Brylin set up the scoring opportunity with a pass from the left circle.
Gionta had another opportunity shortly after the power play, but Giguere made the save on a shot from low in the right circle.
Adam Oates then hit the post with 8:50 left after making a nice move around Devils defenseman Brian Rafalski. The shot went under the sprawled Brodeur and hit the post to his stick side.
Patrik Elias hit the outside of the post off a faceoff in the second period and John Madden deflected a shot by Scott Niedermayer on Giguere late in the stanza. Jay Pandolfo's blast from the circle was also stopped by Giguere.
Madden was sent in alone on Giguere off a feed from Scott Stevens in the closing seconds of the period, but the netminder stood tall and blocked the shot with his chest.
Anaheim trails the best-of-seven series two-games-to-one. The Devils posted a pair of 3-0 wins in New Jersey, but the Ducks took Game 3 in overtime on home ice.
The Devils are in the Finals for the third time in four years and are seeking their third Stanley Cup, while Anaheim is making its first appearance in the Finals.
