Philadelphia, PA (My Sportsbook) - The Philadelphia Phillies signed veteran infielder John Valentin to a Triple-A contract on Tuesday. "He's a veteran major league player who may prove to be a valuable asset to the Phillies moving forward," assistant general manager Ruben Amaro said. "He has some versatility in that he can play all four infield positions and we're willing to find out if he can help us." Valentin will report to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre of the International League, on June 12. Valentin, 36, played in 114 games with the Mets last season and hit .240 with three home runs and 30 RBI. He hit .294 as a pinch-hitter with one home run and 13 RBI. In 11 major league seasons, Valentin has a .279 bating average with 124 home runs and 558 RBI, playing 10 of those seasons with Boston before joining the Mets last year.
