The righthander has just one defeat in his last five starts (3-1) and is coming off a no-decision on Thursday at Philadelphia. Pineiro has dropped his last two starts at Safeco Field. Pineiro will face the Expos for the first time in his career. Ichiro Suzuki had a pair of hits with an RBI and a run scored last night, while Jeff Cirillo went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Randy Winn had a hit and scored two runs, as the Mariners lost for just the second time in 13 games. Despite the defeat, Seattle remains tied with the Atlanta Braves for the best record in the majors. Seattle's Bret Boone has a career-best 15-game hitting streak. Seattle designated hitter Edgar Martinez has 1,147 RBI and is six shy of passing Ken Griffey Jr. for the all-time mark in Mariners history.
