TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) -Jeff Rutledge was hired as Arizona's quarterbacks coach on Tuesday, one of four more assistants hired by new Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt.
Freddie Kitchens was hired as tight ends coach, Mike Miller as offensive assistant and Matt Raich as defensive quality control coach.
Whisenhunt also will retain assistant defensive backs coach Rick Courtright from departed coach Dennis Green's staff, and Richie Anderson will switch from tight ends coach to wide receivers coach.
Rutledge, who played 14 seasons in the NFL with the Los Angeles Rams, New York Giants and Washington Redskins, has been head coach at Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville the past five seasons. His Bell Academy teams went 41-17 and won the state championship in 2002 and `03.
Kitchens, tight ends coach for Dallas last season, coached two seasons at Mississippi State before moving to the NFL in last year. Kitchens was a three-year starter for Alabama in the mid-1990s.
Both Rutledge and Kitchens were quarterbacks at Alabama. Rutledge played for Bear Bryant, directing the team to a national championship in 1978.
Kitchens was quarterbacks coach for the Berlin Thunder in NFL Europe last season. He also was an offensive assistant with the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1999-2003 and was tight ends coach of the Buffalo Bills in 2004 and `05.
Raich was an offensive assistant for Pittsburgh the past three seasons,
