Phoenix, AZ (My Sportsbook) - Phoenix Suns forward and NBA Rookie of the Year Amare Stoudemire had successful surgery on Thursday to correct an ailing bunion on his right foot. The procedure, which was performed by Dr. William Hamilton in New York City, corrected a grade-one bunion that had bothered the 20-year-old Stoudemire throughout the 2002-03 season. Despite the problematic pain in his right big toe, Stoudemire never missed a game, averaging 13.5 points and 8.8 rebounds for the Suns on his way to claiming the rookie honor. Stoudemire, who will not play in the team's rookie/free agent camp because of the surgery, went on to average 14.2 points and 7.8 rebounds in Phoenix's first round playoff matchup with the San Antonio Spurs. He is expected to return to the court in early September.
