Atlanta, GA (My Sportsbook) - Atlanta Thrashers goaltender Byron Dafoe has exercised his contract option and will stay with the team for the 2003-04 season. Dafoe signed with Atlanta as an unrestricted free agent on November 20, 2002, and started just 17 games, partly due to injury, for the remainder of last season. The 31-year-old went 5-11-1 with a 4.36 goals-against average. "Byron is an accomplished goaltender and we are happy that he has decided to remain with the organization," said general manger Donald Waddell. "He will strengthen our group of goaltenders and help us be more successful." In 11 NHL seasons, including stints with Washington, Los Angeles, Boston and the Thrashers, Dafoe is 167-159-55 with a 2.66 GAA. The former Second Team All-Star and Vezina Trophy finalist has recorded 30-plus wins in a season three times to go along with 26 career shutouts.
