New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - Los Angeles Lakers star guard Kobe Bryant underwent surgery Thursday to repair a torn labrum suffered during the playoffs. Bryant went under the knife at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center where shoulder specialist Dr. Louis Bigliani performed the procedure. Bryant is expected to make a complete recovery. A timetable has not been set for his recovery, but it is expected that he will be ready for the start of the Lakers' training camp. It is believed that Bryant was injured during a first-round playoff game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, but still managed to tough it out through the Lakers' final 10 postseason contests. Bryant averaged 32.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.2 assists in 12 playoff games. The Lakers were eliminated in the semifinals by the eventual Western Conference Champion San Antonio Spurs, ending the Lakers' quest for a fourth consecutive NBA championship. It is unknown at this point whether or not Bryant will be able to participate in this summer's Olympic qualifying tournament, to be held August 20-31 in Puerto Rico.
