Pittsburgh, PA (My Sportsbook) - The Pittsburgh Steelers signed defensive end Aaron Smith to a four-year contract extension Wednesday. Financial terms of the deal were not released, but the deal, which will keep him with the team through 2011, will reportedly pay him $25 million. There is one year left on his current contract. Smith, 30, is a prototypical 3-4 defensive end, with a strong rush off the edge and a knack for stuffing the run. The Northern Colorado product recorded 4.5 sacks and 61 total tackles last season. A nine-year veteran, Smith has played in 118 career games with the Steelers, starting 110. He was drafted by the team in the fourth round (109th overall) in the 1999 NFL Draft. Only three players have more tenure on the team than Smith, including offensive guard Alan Faneca, cornerback Deshea Townsend and wide receiver Hines Ward.
