Tampa, FL (My Sportsbook) - The
Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed free-agent quarterback Jeff Garcia to an undisclosed contract.
Garcia helped the Philadelphia Eagles to the playoffs last season, taking over for an injured Donovan McNabb last November. The Eagles lost their first start with Garcia at the helm, then won five straight to capture the NFC East crown.
After a playoff win over the Giants, the Eagles lost to New Orleans in the NFC Divisional Playoffs.
Garcia completed 61.7 percent of his passes for 1,309 yards with 10 touchdowns and just two interceptions last season.
The 37-year-old has also played for Detroit, Cleveland and San Francisco. He was a three-time Pro Bowl choice during his days with the 49ers.
In 99 career games, including 92 starts, Garcia has completed 60.9 percent of his passes for 20,385 yards with 136 touchdowns and 73 interceptions.
Garcia is expected to compete with Chris Simms and Bruce Gradkowski for the starting job with the Buccaneers.
Simms is recovering from a spleenectomy that was performed last fall after he was hurt early in the season. Despite the injury, the Bucs signed him to a new contract last December.
The Buccaneers also made another move on Saturday, signing linebacker Patrick Chukwurah from the Denver Broncos. Chukwurah, who has also played defensive end, spent the past three seasons with the Broncos after playing three years in Minnesota.
The 28-year-old Wyoming product has 69 tackles and eight sacks in 69 NFL games.
