Ashburn, VA (My Sportsbook) - The Washington Redskins signed defensive back Fred Smoot on Sunday. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. Smoot rejoins the Redskins after spending the previous two seasons with Minnesota. With the Vikings last season, he had 64 tackles and one interception in 14 games (10 starts). Over the two years, he intercepted three passes but was benched in both seasons with the club. Smoot was far better known for his off-field travails, including the infamous boating incident on Lake Minnetonka in which several members of the team were accused of sexual improprieties. A six-year veteran, Smoot played his first four seasons with the Redskins after joining the team as a second-round draft pick. For his career, he has accumulated 323 tackles, 19 interceptions, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.
