Minneapolis, MN (My Sportsbook) - Superstar forward Kevin Garnett and the Timberwolves could be close to agreeing on a contract extension that would keep Minnesota's franchise player with the team for the next six seasons, according to a published report. The Star Tribune reported on Friday that Timberwolves' owner Glen Taylor believes a deal is close. According to the report, Taylor and Wolves' Vice President Kevin McHale met with Garnett's agent, Andy Miller, in Minneapolis on Thursday afternoon. Taylor described the meeting as positive and said it is not unrealistic to think a deal -- or at least the framework for one -- could be in place before the season opener next week. Garnett, who has two seasons left on his $126 million contract, is eligible for an extension worth up to $139 million over four years. According to the report, Minnesota is believed to have offered a four-year extension worth around $75 million. Selected out of high school by Minnesota in the first round (fifth pick overall) of the 1995 NBA Draft, Garnett averaged 21.2 points, 12.1 rebounds and 5.2 assists in 81 games last season. The 26-year old Garnett, who will be entering his eighth season in the NBA, all with Minnesota, has career averages of 18.9 points, 9.9 rebounds and 4.1 assists. He is a five-time All-Star and a two-time selection to the All-NBA First Team.
