Cincinnati, OH (My Sportsbook) - The Cincinnati Reds demoted infielder Felipe Lopez to Triple-A Louisville, purchasing from Louisville the contract of left- handed pitcher Jimmy Anderson, who started Monday night's 4-3 loss against the Chicago Cubs. Anderson (1-3) suffered the loss after he tossed six innings and allowed four runs on seven hits with a pair of strikeouts and a walk. The 23-year-old Lopez made his major league debut with Toronto in 2001 and has played in 193 career games, with 15 home runs and 70 RBI. Lopez was the Blue Jays' first-round pick (eighth overall) in the 1998 First-Year Player Draft. He was acquired from Toronto in a four-club trade in December that cost Cincinnati right-handed pitcher Elmer Dessens. Lopez was expected to challenge Barry Larkin for the starting shortstop job, but has committed a team-high 16 errors and has just six hits in his last 47 at bats. He was batting just .213 with 28 runs, two homers, 13 RBI and eight stolen bases this season. Anderson was signed to a one-year, non-guaranteed minor-league contract in January. His promotion fills the void in the rotation created by John Riedling's right elbow injury.
