New York Mets Team Report - June 20 ===
(My Sportsbook) - The Big Apple will be abuzz this evening as the Mets and Yankees renew hostilities in the latest installment of the Subway Series with a three-game interleague set at Shea Stadium.
Since the start of interleague play in 1997, the Yankees have posted an 18-12 mark over their cross-town rivals and also defeated them in five games to capture the 2000 World Series.
Both teams' struggles this year have been well documented, but both seem to be coming around as of late. The Mets have won six of their last nine and with youngsters such as Jose Reyes and Jae Seo, baseball is starting to become fun again in Flushing.
Reyes will be making his much-anticipated Shea Stadium debut tonight and has impressed since being recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on June 10. In his 10 games, the 20-year- old shortstop has driven in 11 runs, despite hitting a mere .205, while injecting a much needed spark into a lifeless team.
On Thursday, the Mets missed out on a chance at equaling their best mark on a 10-game road trip when they fell, 5-1 to the Florida Marlins. Roberto Alomar posted two of the five hits for the Mets, who lost for the first time in three games and finished up their trip at 6-4.
Mike Bacsik (1-2) absorbed the loss after permitting five runs and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings.
Steve Trachsel gets the call for the Mets tonight on the heels of his strongest outing of the season. The 32-year-old righthander allowed just one hit in a shutout over the Anaheim Angels on Sunday to snap a personal two-game losing streak. The Mets have 20 one-hitters in team history, but have never had a no-hitter in their 42-year existence.
Trachsel, who is 0-3 with a 6.67 ERA in five home starts this season, is 2-2 with a 3.81 ERA against the Yankees in five career starts.
The Mets are 5-4 against the AL.
