New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - Infielder Marlon Anderson and outfielder Carl Crawford of the
Tampa Bay Devil Rays and pitcher Julian Tavarez and catcher Jason Kendall of the
Pittsburgh Pirates were each suspended three games and fined an undisclosed amount of money for their actions during a bench-clearing brawl in a game on Saturday, June 14 at Tropicana Field.
In addition, pitcher Joe Kennedy and outfielder Al Martin of the Devil Rays were each fined an undisclosed amount.
Bob Watson, vice president of on-field operations for Major League Baseball, made the disciplinary announcement on Friday.
Anderson was suspended for inciting the altercation and fighting. Unless appealed, his suspension will begin tonight against Florida.
Crawford was punished by the league for fighting and his suspension is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 23, when Tampa Bay faces the Yankees.
Kendall and Tavarez both received suspensions for fighting. Kendall's suspension is scheduled to start tonight against Cleveland, while the suspension for Tavarez will take effect on Monday, June 23 versus Montreal.
The bench-clearing brawl started after Anderson was hit by a pitch from Pittsburgh starter Josh Fogg with two outs in the fourth inning. Anderson then began arguing with Kendall as he walked up the first base line and used his forearm to knock off the catcher's mask, sparking both benches and bullpens to empty.
Kendall, Anderson, Tavarez and Martin were all ejected by home plate umpire Mark Wegner.
