Robinson now on electronic monitoring in Green Bay

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) - Green Bay Packers receiver Koren Robinson will finish a jail sentence by serving the final 45 days on electronic monitoring and working at a local hospital.

Robinson was sentenced to 90 days in jail for fleeing police last August in Minnesota when he was with the Vikings. He began serving the sentence March 9 at a facility near Minneapolis.

Roger Pederson, an administrator at the facility, said Robinson was released April 7 to serve the rest of the sentence in Wisconsin.

Capt. Dave Konrath of the Brown County Sheriff's Department said Tuesday that Robinson became an inmate at the Green Bay jail on Monday and will serve 45 days on electronic monitoring.

As part of the monitoring program, Robinson will be allowed to rehabilitate a knee injury and work odd jobs at Bellin Health Care.

Robinson, who is paying about $20 a day for the electronic monitor, was eligible to finish his sentence outside the jail because he was considered a minimum security risk and he is a resident of Green Bay, Konrath said.

``He has to give the electronic monitoring sergeant a schedule of his activities,'' Konrath said. ``Basically, he can go to work, church and school.''

In a statement, the Brown County Sheriff's Department said Robinson's electronic monitoring program would include working ``as an assistant to Dr. Patrick McKenzie and Bellin Health Care.'' McKenzie is the Packers' team doctor.

As part of his NFL suspension, Robinson was barred from contact with the team.

McKenzie did not immediately return a telephone message Tuesday, but his assistant said Robinson was not working with McKenzie ``in any type of employment.'' She declined to elaborate, citing health confidentiality laws.

When Robinson was arrested last August in Minnesota, he was driving his leased BMW 760 sedan at speeds officers said exceeded 100 mph. Robinson said he was rushing to get back to training camp in Mankato before curfew.

Robinson is also serving a 90-day jail term that was ordered because the Minnesota chase violated conditions of his probation from a separate drunken-driving conviction in Kirkland, Wash., last year. The probation violation and Minnesota sentence are being served at the same time.

After he signed with Green Bay, the NFL suspended Robinson for one year for violating its substance-abuse policy.

Robinson, a six-year veteran, caught seven passes in four games for Green Bay in 2006. He previously played for the Seattle Seahawks and Minnesota Vikings.Copyright © 2005 The Associated Press.
