New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - Alfonso Soriano is still the leader among all American League vote-getters in the balloting for the 2003 Major League Baseball All-Star Game.
Soriano, the New York Yankees' starting second baseman, has accumulated 881,865 votes and is batting .287 with 19 homers, 46 RBI and 20 stolen bases.
Alex Rodriguez of Texas holds the top spot at shortstop with 697,651 votes. Rodriguez owns a .553 slugging percentage to go along with 18 homers and 43 RBI.
Another Yankee, Jorge Posada, is first among all AL catchers with 703,946 votes. Posada, with 15 homers and 43 runs scored, could earn his fourth career All-Star selection.
Other AL leaders by position are first baseman Carlos Delgado of the Toronto Blue Jays and third baseman Troy Glaus of the World Series champion Anaheim Angels. Seattle's Ichiro Suzuki leads all outfielders with 704,346 votes, and is followed by Manny Ramirez of the Boston Red Sox and Torii Hunter of the Minnesota Twins.
Designated hitter Edgar Martinez of the Seattle Mariners, with 644,537 votes, has more than double the amount of votes than the next closest DH.
The 2003 All-Star Game, scheduled for July 15 at Chicago's U.S. Cellular Field, is unique this year. For the first time in history, the winning league will gain home field advantage in the 2003 World Series.
