GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -Former Green Bay Packers linebacker Bill Forester died after a long illness. He was 74.

Ron Burke, a funeral director for the Eastgate Funeral Home in Dallas, said a graveside service was held there Monday for Forester, who died on Friday.

The Dallas native spent his entire 11-year NFL career from 1953 to 1963 with the Packers. After playing as a defensive tackle at SMU, Forester became a starter in the Green Bay linebacking corps that also included Ray Nitschke and Dan Currie during coach Vince Lombardi's first two championship seasons, 1961 and 1962.

Forester had 21 interceptions and three fumble recoveries in 138 games. He also averaged 13.9 yards on 17 kickoff returns during his career and recorded a safety.Copyright © 2005 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
