=== Detroit Tigers Team Report - June 26 === (My Sportsbook) - The Detroit Tigers hope to halt a five-game losing streak and avoid a four-game sweep at the hands of the Boston Red Sox on Thursday when the teams meet in the finale of their set at Fenway Park. Detroit fell for the 17th time in its last 19 games on Wednesday by suffering an 11-2 setback to the Red Sox. Boston plated nine runs in the eighth inning to blow the game open. Mike Maroth (2-12) suffered the defeat and became the first 12-game loser in the majors, but deserved a far better fate. He gave up just two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four in seven innings. Kevin Witt and Craig Monroe each knocked in a run for Detroit. Alex Sanchez was the only Tiger with a multi-hit night. Detroit's Matt Roney has the tough task of opposing Pedro Martinez on Thursday. The rookie righthander will make his 24th appearance of the season, but just his second career start. In his last outing, Roney made his first career start. However, he was held to a pitch count and failed to earn a decision against Colorado Saturday. Roney lasted only 3 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits, while walking three and striking out one. Roney will face the Red Sox for the first time in his career on Thursday. Detroit is just 12-28 on the road this season
