New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - The Celtics and Grizzlies worked out a draft day trade Thursday that had Boston receiving Memphis' two first-round selections in exchange for the Grizzlies' two picks in the opening round.
Boston acquired the draft rights to UNLV guard Marcus Banks and high school star Kendrick Perkins from Memphis for the draft rights to Boston College guard Troy Bell and Duke guard Dahntay Jones.
Banks, the 13th selection in the draft, was named to the Mountain West Conference First Team following a season in which he led the league in both assists (5.5) and steals (2.8) per game. He ranked second in the conference in scoring at 20.3 ppg and posted six 30-plus scoring games this past season.
Perkins was the 27th pick in the first round. The 6-foot-10 Perkins was selected to the All-USA Second Team last year and was a three-time Texas All- State and All-Region selection. He averaged 27.5 points, 16.4 rebounds and 7.8 blocks per game as a senior.
Bell, taken 16th, finished his career as Boston College's all-time leading scorer with 2,632 points, ranking him 21st on the NCAA's all-time scoring list as well. Bell started all 31 games as a senior and averaged 25.2 points per outing.
The Celtics selected Jones at No. 20. Jones was named to the All-ACC First Team following a senior season in which he averaged a career-best 17.7 points and 5.5 rebounds per contest. He also earned All-ACC Defensive Team honors this past year.
In other transactions, The Spurs selected guard Leandrinho Barbosa of Brazil at No. 28 and then traded his rights to the Phoenix Suns for a future first round pick.
Meanwhile, Philadelphia was involved in two deals. The 76ers selected France guard Pacellis Morlende with the 50th choice and then traded his draft rights along with cash to Seattle for the Sonics' 41st pick, University of Detroit guard Willie Green. Philadelphia then acquired the rights to the Nets' selection at No. 51, Creighton guard Kyle Korver, in exchange for cash considerations.
Finally, the Milwaukee Bucks traded the rights for the 43rd pick, guard Keith Bogans of Kentucky, to the Orlando Magic for cash considerations, while the Chicago Bulls sent the rights for the 45th selection, Florida forward Matt Bonner, to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for a future second-round pick.
