Houston, TX (My Sportsbook) - The Houston Astros placed second baseman Jeff Kent on the 15-day disabled list on Friday, retroactive to June 19. The former NL MVP has missed the team's last seven games with tendinitis in his left wrist. Kent received a cortisone shot on Sunday during an examination by Houston's team physician. No structural damage was found. The 35-year-old Kent is batting .313 with 11 homers and a team-high 50 RBI in 69 games this season. The Astros recalled infielder David Matranga from Triple-A New Orleans to take Kent's roster spot. Matranga homered in his first major league at-bat during Friday's 10-7 loss to the Texas Rangers. He became the 86th player in major league history to accomplish the feat. Kent, who has finished in the top 10 in National League MVP voting four times in the last six years, won the award in 2000.
