Milwaukee Brewers Team Report - June 28 ===
(My Sportsbook) - The Milwaukee Brewers scored at least two runs in six separate innings on Friday night in order to post an impressive 13-1 win over the Minnesota Twins in the opener of a three-game series at the Metrodome.
Richie Sexson smacked a three-run homer and finished with five runs batted in, and Matt Kinney tossed his first career complete game in the Interleague matchup. Sexson had three hits and scored twice for the Brewers, who have won three straight and five of seven.
Kinney allowed one run and eight hits to earn his first win in three outings. He walked one and struck out four in his 35th career start.
Brooks Kieschnick registered two hits, including a homer, and drove in two for Milwaukee, while Scott Podsednik added three hits, including a two-run double, while John Vander Wal and Eddie Perez also homered.
After a convincing win yesterday, the Brewers are calling upon a reliable righthander from the minors to keep the wins coming, purchasing the contract of Dave Burba on Friday from Indianapolis of the Independent League (AAA).
Burba, 36, started this season with Triple-A Buffalo where he was 1-3 with a 2.05 ERA in four starts. He then signed with Indianapolis on May 4 and made 10 appearances (nine starts) recording a 5-4 record and a 5.33 ERA. His combined totals were 6-7 with a 4.33 ERA.
Burba's most recent start came Tuesday at Scranton. He earned the win for the fourth time in five starts working seven innings of four-hit ball. He allowed one run while striking out seven.
The Ohio native began his 13-year major-league career with Seattle and last year he made 35 appearances, split between Texas and Cleveland, generating a 5-5 record with a 5.20 ERA.
Since 1993, Burba has won at least 10 games in eight of 10 seasons including a career-high 16 victories for Cleveland in 2000.
