Cincinnati, OH (My Sportsbook) - The Cincinnati Reds have traded relief pitcher Scott Williamson to the Boston Red Sox for a minor league pitcher. Williamson, a former NL Rookie of Year, should bolster the Boston bullpen. In 42 games this season, he is 5-3 with a 3.19 earned run average and 21 saves. The Red Sox now have a second option for their closer role, which has been recently handled by Byung-Hyun Kim. Kim, who was acquired from Arizona earlier this year, has made no secret of his desire to be a starter. He was in the rotation for the Diamondbacks before the trade and could start for Boston if the Red Sox want Williamson to close. In exchange for the 27-year-old Williamson, the Reds acquired minor league pitcher Phillip Dumatrait, a player to be named later and cash. Dumatrait, Boston's top draft pick in 2000, was 7-5 with a 3.02 ERA for the Single-A Sarasota Red Sox.
