Cincinnati, OH (My Sportsbook) - Cincinnati Reds outfielder Ken Griffey Jr. is scheduled to undergo right shoulder surgery on Monday. It will be the second operation for Griffey in less than a month. He had corrective surgery to repair a ruptured tendon in his right ankle on July 18. Monday's procedure will repair a torn labrum, an injury Griffey sustained when he dislocated his shoulder while trying to make a diving catch on April 5. He returned from the shoulder dislocation in May, then suffered the season-ending ankle injury on July 17. Griffey was able to play with the torn labrum in his non-throwing arm and was going to have shoulder surgery after the season. He decided to have it sooner once he was diagnosed as sidelined for the season, but doctors wanted to wait until after the ankle surgery before working on the shoulder. The 33-year-old Griffey has been injured in each of his four seasons with the Reds and has already had six surgical procedures since joining the club before the 2000 season. He should be ready for spring training in February. This year, the former All-Star was hitting just .247 with 13 home runs and 26 runs batted in over 53 games. He needs 19 homers for 500 in his career.
