Dallas, TX (My Sportsbook) - The red-hot
Dallas Stars will host the
Florida Panthers Wednesday night when they kick off a brief two-game homestand at American Airlines Center.
Mike Modano scored twice, including the game-winner, 37 seconds into overtime, as Dallas upended the Edmonton Oilers on Monday, 4-3. Bill Guerin had a goal and an assist for the Stars, who are unbeaten in their last four games (3-0-1).
Derian Hatcher also scored and Marty Turco stopped 28 shots for Dallas, which has won two in a row.
On the winning goal, Darryl Sydor passed the puck from the left point to Modano, who blasted a one-timer from the right circle with the puck sneaking in just inside the right post, beyond goaltender Jussi Markkanen. Modano extended his points streak to five games (4g, 5a).
Kirk Muller was held off the scoresheet and remains three assists short of 600 for his career.
The Stars have scored the first goal in nine of the 10 games this season and have a 6-1-2 record in those contests. They have also given up just three first-period goals this season.
Dallas, which is a perfect 3-0-0 at home this season, will wrap up its set on Friday versus Columbus. The team's best start to a season at home was back in the 1979-80 campaign when they won their first six games.
The Panthers on the other hand are winless in their last three (0-2-1) and were dismantled by the Tampa Bay Lightning, 6-1, on Monday.
Florida, which trailed by a goal late in the game, allowed four goals in a span of 3:02 to seal its fate.
Roberto Luongo made 32 saves in the losing effort and Marcus Nilson tallied the lone Panthers' goal.
The Panthers have won two of the last three meetings, but have dropped five of their last seven.
Florida, which is 2-3-2 in Dallas, is just 3-6-1 in the last 10 overall in the series.
