Indianapolis, IN (My Sportsbook) - The Indiana Pacers hired Ron Rothstein as an assistant coach Friday. The former NBA head coach replaces Brendan Malone, who took a similar position with the New York Knicks in May. Rothstein, the Miami Heat's first head coach, joins the staff of Isiah Thomas. The two spent time in Detroit during the late 1980s. Thomas was the Pistons' standout guard and Rothstein an assistant coach. After three seasons as the head coach for the Heat, from 1988 to '91, Rothstein led the Pistons during the 1992-93 season. He spent the next six seasons as an assistant with Cleveland.
