Chicago, IL (My Sportsbook) - The Chicago Cubs hired baseball executive Gary Hughes on Wednesday to become a special assistant to vice president/general manager Jim Hendry. The 61-year-old Hughes has spent the last 36 years working in the majors, most recently with the Cincinnati Reds. He will now be responsible for evaluating players involved in potential trades for the Cubs. Baseball America selected Hughes as one of the top 10 scouts of the 20th century. He started his scouting career with the San Francisco Giants in 1967 and then spent time with the Yankees from 1978-85, before being employed by the Montreal Expos (1986-1991), Florida Marlins (1992-1998), Colorado Rockies (1999) and Reds (2000-2002).
