Montreal enters this contest 5 1/2 games behind the Florida Marlins for the NL wild card spot. Last night, the Expos lost 6-3 in 11 innings. Vladimir Guerrero hit a two-run homer and finished with three runs batted in for the Expos, who lost for the first time in six tries at home. Montreal has lost six of its last eight overall. Guerrero has 224 career homers as an Expo, one shy of the team record, set by Andre Dawson (1976-86). Javier Vazquez will pitch this evening for the Expos, who need a win to avoid falling under .500 for the first time this season. The righthander is coming off a loss at Houston on Friday. He has walked five batters, while fanning 35 over his last five assignments and is 3-2 in that span. Vazquez is ranked second in the majors, behind only Kerry Wood of the Chicago Cubs, with 174 strikeouts. Vazquez is 6-2 with a 3.50 ERA in 13 home starts this season. Vazquez is 1-2 with a 5.04 ERA in five career games versus Colorado. |
