New York Yankees Team Report - August 14 ===
(My Sportsbook) - Andy Pettitte hopes for some run support tonight when the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles begin a four-game series at Camden Yards.
Pettitte suffered his first setback in 11 starts on Saturday, despite a complete game effort against the Seattle Mariners. In the contest Pettitte allowed a pair of runs on five hits, while striking out five in the 2-1 loss.
The 31-year-old lefthander has allowed three runs on six hits in his last two starts, spanning 17 innings, but has received just two runs of support and has no victories to show for it. He is 13-7 on the year with a 4.10 ERA.
Pettitte, the first pitcher to win at least 12 games in his first nine major league seasons since Hall of Famer Stan Covaleski did it for Cleveland from 1916-26, has dominated the Orioles over the course of his career. The veteran hurler is 16-4 against them, while pitching to a 3.80 in 24 games, 23 of which have been starts.
New York, though, comes into tonight's contest on the heels of its most lopsided loss of the season, an 11-0 setback to the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday.
Jeff Weaver (6-9) tied his career-high by allowing nine runs. The righthander surrendered 13 hits in 6 1/3 innings.
New York, which has lost three of its last four series, has lost four of its last five games and had its lead in the AL East dwindled to three games over the Red Sox, who beat Oakland on Wednesday night.
Newly acquired third baseman Aaron Boone is just 6-for-44 with a double and one RBI since being acquired by the Yankees from the Cincinnati Reds at the trade deadline.
The teams have split the four matchups this season, but New York has dominated the Orioles in recent years. Since the start of the 2000 season the Yankees 35-18 against Baltimore, including a 18-9 mark at Camden Yards.
