Los Angeles Dodgers Team Report - August 14 ===
(My Sportsbook) - The Dodgers conclude a four-game series versus the Florida Marlins today at Pro Player Stadium.
The Dodgers lost 2-1 last night, as Mike Mordecai belted a homer off Victor Alvarez in the bottom of the 11th inning to give the Marlins the win. The Dodgers have lost three of their last four after winning six in a row and are 4 1/2 games behind the Marlins in the wild card chase.
Kevin Brown, who has just one victory in his last eight starts, will be on the mound for the Dodgers today. The righthander lost his most recent outing, on Sunday against the Cubs, when he allowed five hits and three runs in seven innings. Two of those were homers, the first round-trippers he's given up since May 20 versus Colorado.
However, Brown's problems are mostly due to a lack of run support. He has allowed one earned run or less in 14 of his 23 starts this season. His 2.21 ERA leads the majors among all starters.
Brown owns a 5-2 career mark in nine starts against the Marlins and is 2-0 in his last three outings against Florida.
The Dodgers lead the season series 4-2 and have won six of the last eight meetings.
Los Angeles is 27-32 on the road and has dropped seven of its last nine as the visitor.
Dodgers reliever Guillermo Mota has a 14 2/3 innings scoreless streak over his last nine games.
Eric Gagne has converted 47 straight save opportunities, dating back to August 28, 2002. It's the second-longest streak in major league history,. Tom Gordon of Boston had 54 in a row April 19, 1998 - June 5, 1999.
